Silver lining.

Bismillah.

Currently I'm studying Korean language at INTEC as a preparation to go to South Korea next year, inshaAllah. I love my course, really. I get to study a foreign language (which is my passion), I get to study in Korea and most importantly I get to study engineering there; which is one of the developed countries in terms of technology.

But people just seem to be sceptical towards the country I'm going. Why? Okay, now tell me what comes to your mind when you hear the word 'Korea'?

K-Pop?

Plastic surgery?

Unmanly/gay guys and girls with great figures?

Winter Sonata?

Runningman?

Samsung?

Now how about 'Korean language'?

"Korean is easier than Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese etc)."

"It's not as complicated as Japanese. Japanese has katakana, hiragana and kanji."

Or maybe...

"Korean is easy! I can read hangul!"

See peeps, this is what I am talking about.  People's perceptions of the country I'm going to pursue my studies in are mostly not positive it is almost discouraging. Here in INTEC we get that a lot. Boys are teased by students from other courses as 'K-Pop'. Dude, not everybody from our programme likes K-Pop. Some loathes it. Don't judge. Some are just unlucky to not get the country they applied for. And you judging them makes it harder for them. Dahlah tak dapat apa yang diorang nak, kena panggil macam macam pulak.

And here we get;

"Korea tak susah macam Jepun. Korea ada 1 tulisan je kan? Kitorang ada 3."

...and

"Korea susah tak? Deutsch susah gila."

...a lot.

Seriously lah kan, ada ke benda yang senang dalam dunia ni? Dah namanya belajar, memanglah susah. Tu sebab kita BELAJAR. Japanese is hard, Deutsch is hard, Korean is hard ㅡ heck even English is hard. Again, don't judge. And doesn't mean if you got A+ for English during SPM, you can get the same for IELTS and TOEFL. Seriously. Stop assuming. Matriks pun susah although tak perlu belajar bahasa asing. Form 6 pun. Semua benda ada susah dan senangnya. It's just how we adapt to it that varies.

We need to stop complaining and start counting our blessings. We are chosen by Him to get the scholarship/loan to the said countries. Why? There has to be a reason behind it. So, strive and don't throw this opportunity away. Find out what's the silver lining is.

Or perhaps, the silver linings.
